"...it's all about being yourself!" - HTD March 10, 2002 - Tivoli Theatre
I know some of you were at the Hayden/Julie Doiron show and I think
most of you'll agree that it was one hell of a good time! And yeah -
that was my big mouth yelling that Tony Robbins-like line last
Julie's voice sounded incredible and her music always makes me think.
I like thinking music. She was sooo right about the acoustics in
there....purely amazing! I think alot of it has to do with the oval
shape of the room....everything makes it's way around and doesn't
have a chance to get lost. Talked to her after her set at the merch
table and she said she was nervous beforehand but as soon as she got
out there - she knew it would be a great show. I told her that was
the best that I've seen her....and I've seen her a good 4 or 5 times.
It's all about the vibe.
Hayden made me laugh, think, sing and also smile. I'm glad to see
that he was in such a good mood and his between song banter and that
powerbar bit was too funny. The folks I went with also got a good
laugh outta the Mayor McCa-like stylings of the guitar-smash-cymbal
drumbeat! He also sent chills up my spine with the string and horn
sections....and totally made me re-think "The Bass Song"...that's one
scary tune....and I only realized it after hearing it live. Loved the
sing-a-long and I think that crowd would've kept calling out Hayden
until 2 am....I'm sure he was smiling!
Hayden is no longer the man who "lost his smile"...
I've been to Tivoli a few times before and I love it there. Someone
left the show last night and said something to the effect of "this
place has a weird smell" and I walked by thinking that's the best
part about it....that's the smell of history and I think we all added
to it last night....
